A young woman and a boy allegedly caught in the act of burglarizing a car in Manhattan Beach were facing possible criminal charges Wednesday.

A resident called authorities about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday to report a male and female burglarizing a vehicle in the 600 block of 19th Street, according to Manhattan Beach police Sgt. Tim Zins.

“At the same time, the owner of the vehicle observed the female suspect inside of his car,” Zins said.

The suspect realized she was being watched and attempted to ride away on a bicycle, but the car owner caught up to her while the male suspect fled in another direction, Zins said.

“As the owner of the car was holding the suspect’s bicycle in an attempt to detain her, the suspect struck him in the face with her fist and fled the area,” Zins said.

Officers swarmed the area and found the woman at Live Oak Park. Her companion was located near the intersection of Marine and Pacific avenues, the sergeant said.

The woman was identified as 20-year-old Danielle Justyn Hastings, who is homeless, Zins said. The boy’s name, age and place of residence were not disclosed.

Both were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony and robbery, the sergeant said.
