A 27-year-old Hawthorne man stands accused of assault Thursday for allegedly raising Cain at the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurant in Downey during a recorded attack that was posted on social media.

Deandre Lorick is facing one misdemeanor count of assault for allegedly throwing a Gatorade bottle full of liquid at the manager of the restaurant at 9265 Firestone Blvd., striking him in the face, after being refused service for allegedly cutting into the drive-through line, according to Downey Police Lt. Alex Irizabal.

The alleged assault occurred on June 24, Irizabal said.

The bottle was flung along with epithets when the manager opened the drive-through window to speak with the vehicle occupants, who demanded proof they had cut in line.

“The suspect and other occupants in the vehicle then fled the location, but videotaped the incident and posted it on social media, garnering much attention on local television and social media,” according to Irizabal.

Detectives investigated and identified Lorick, who has now been ordered to appear in court on Aug. 25, the lieutenant said.

It’s unclear if the victim was seriously hurt.
