Who walked away with $1 million in stolen footwear in Torrance?
Authorities are seeking information Friday that will lead them to the thieves who stole at least $1 million worth of footwear from a warehouse yard in Torrance, though most of the merchandise was recovered.
On Sunday night, a chassis container trailer loaded with men’s and women’s footwear was taken from the Torrance business yard, but authorities did not disclose a location.
The trailer was recovered two days later in Whittier but all the footwear had been removed, according to the Cargo Hijack Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Commercial Crimes Division. The multi-agency team includes investigators from various law enforcement agencies.
Acting on a tip, detectives rushed to a business in the 4400 block of Baldwin Avenue in El Monte, where they recovered about $900,000 worth of the stolen product, police said.
Anyone with information about the theft was asked to contact Detective Marc Zavala at (818) 832-7510 or Jeannette Santos at (818) 832-7511.
