A resident of an Indio mobile home park was hospitalized with severe burns Tuesday resulting from a fire that spread to five neighboring units and four vehicles before crews were able to douse the flames.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the blaze, which was reported at 6:46 a.m. at the Elms Mobile Home Park at 81271 Indio Blvd.

Firefighters found one mobile home “well involved with fire” and one person who required hospitalization for serious injuries, said Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire destroyed four homes and three vehicles, and damaged two homes and one vehicle, according to Cabral, who said crews contained the flames within an hour.
