Authorities Friday identified a man killed in a drive-by shooting that also left a woman wounded in the Compton area.
The shooting was reported at 9:32 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of East 148th Street west of Central Avenue, said Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The crime scene was in unincorporated Rosewood west of Compton.
Estephan Hernandez, 21, who had been shot multiple times, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. His home town was not known. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of a single gunshot wound to the body and was expected to survive, Rodriguez said.
Both victims were found inside a parked vehicle at the location.
According to the sheriff’s department, the two were having a conversation when a black four-door sedan that had been westbound on East 148th Street pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire from the still-moving car.
“After the shooting, the suspect’s vehicle continued driving westbound on 148th Street, away from the victim’s vehicle, and out of view,” Rodriguez said.
No suspect description was made available.
Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
