A man was struck and killed when he attempted to cross a Moreno Valley street, stepping into the path of a vehicle whose driver apparently didn’t have time to stop, authorities said Tuesday.
The fatality happened about 8:20 p.m. Monday on Iris Avenue, between Camino Flores and Lasselle streets, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Jaime Hernandez said the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was in the middle of crossing Iris when he was hit.
The driver stopped and called 911. Hernandez said paramedics arrived within three minutes and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
There was nothing to indicate that alcohol or drugs played a part in what happened, the sergeant said.
The investigation was continuing.
