Los Angeles police detectives from the Valley Traffic division asked for the public’s help Sunday to find the hit-and-run driver who recently ran down and killed a pedestrian in Sylmar.
The hit-and-run crash that killed 26-year-old San Fernando resident Wilber Hernandez occurred about 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 6, according to the LAPD.
Hernandez was walking across Gladstone Avenue, south of Bledsoe Street when he was hit. The driver of the vehicle, described as a black BMW, struck Hernandez and fled the scene without identifying themselves, and did not render aid to the victim as required by law, according to the LAPD.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and took Hernandez to a local hospital. On Thursday, Hernandez died from the severe injuries he sustained.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise from the city’s Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund.
Anyone who may have witnessed or have information regarding the incident was asked to call LAPD Valley Traffic Detective Bustos at (818) 644-8021.
Tipsters can also call the LAPD’s 24-hour tipline at (877) LAPD-24-7 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
All tips can be made anonymously.
