A man who allegedly shot out windows of businesses in Bell Gardens, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony vandalism.

Roberto Duarte, 55, of Downey, was arrested about 11:35 a.m. His bail was set at $20,000, according to Bell Gardens police and sheriff’s inmate records.

“The crimes were committed at several business locations up and down Florence Avenue and involved Duarte breaking out glass windows using a projectile shot from his vehicle,” according to police. “While being interviewed, Duarte admitted to the recent string of felony (acts of vandalism) as well as unsolved (acts) from several months ago.”

According to police the monetary damage caused “is projected to be the tens of thousands of dollars.”

Duarte was tentatively scheduled to appear in court in Downey on Monday, according to the sheriff’s department.
