A 64-year-old woman was in custody Saturday after her arrest for trying to rob a bank in Canyon Country with a teller’s note about a fake child hostage story.
Authorities, including FBI agents, responded around 11 a.m. Friday to the 26500 block of Golden Valley Road to a “robbery now,” call, said Deputy Joana Warren of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Information Bureau.
Canyon Country is part of Santa Clarita in northern Los Angeles County.
When the deputies arrived, they learned that the suspect handed a bank teller a note demanding money with a fake story that a man was holding a child hostage outside the bank, Warren said.
The bank teller handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of money while the security doors to the bank were secured. The woman was detained inside when deputies arrived, Warren said.
Deputies arrested the suspect, identified as Grace Farebaugh, who was booked on suspicion of robbery, Warren said. Her bail is set at $50,000.
No one was injured at the location and detectives said there was no child in danger.
Authorities did not provide any information about the woman’s background.
