A 28-year-old driver suspected of striking and killing a pedestrian in Pomona and then fleeing the scene was arrested Tuesday after police received an anonymous tip.
The victim — identified as Christopher Coleman, 46, of Ontario — was struck about 6:30 p.m. Monday on East Grand Avenue east of Reservoir Street, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Just after 3 p.m. Tuesday an anonymous caller provided information about the vehicle and identity of the driver involved and directed investigators to the 4200 block of East Phillips Boulevard in an unincorporated area near Pomona, police said.
“Officers responded to the area and located a blue Chrysler Pacifica with significant front end damage,” according to a police statement.
“Once the vehicle was located, further investigation led officers to a nearby residence where the driver, Gabriela Preciado was located. Ms. Preciado admitted she was the driver of the vehicle and she knowingly left the area after she knew she had struck a person.”
Preciado was arrested and booked on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter, police said.
