A Palmdale man in his 20s was killed and a Lancaster woman was injured as their out-of-control red Honda hit a tree and overturned in Palmdale, authorities said Saturday.

The crash was reported at 8 p.m. Friday in the area of 50th Street East south of Avenue L, according to sheriff’s Det. Eduardo Saucedo.

The man was driving a red 2016 Honda Accord south on 50th Street East when he lost control of the car and drifted onto the oncoming traffic lane and into a dirt shoulder before the car struck a large tree, Saucedo said.

As a result of the crash, the Honda rolled onto the passenger side, ejecting the driver, Saucedo said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger, who also is in her 20s, was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital with multiple fractures.

Authorities did not say if the victims were wearing seat belts, nor if alcohol or drugs may have been involved in the crash.

The intersection was closed for the investigation and was reopened at 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information regarding the crash was encouraged to call Palmdale Sheriff’s Station’s Traffic Department at (661) 272-2400
