A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by two vehicles while running across the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Industry, authorities said Monday.
The fatal crash was reported at 6:49 p.m. Sunday on the northbound San Gabriel River Freeway north of Valley Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer E. Latham.
Luis Ruvalcaba, 31, believed to have been a transient, died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported,
The CHP received a report of a pedestrian struck on the southbound side, but the man was located on the northbound side, Latham said.
It was determined he ran east across the freeway from the southbound side, where he was struck by a 2016 Dodge Journey SUV driven by a 45-year-old Victorville man, the officer said.
The pedestrian climbed over the concrete divider and was struck by a northbound 2015 Toyota Camry driven by a 90-year-old Upland man in the HOV lane, Latham said.
Alcohol, drugs or both were suspected to be factors in the crash, the CHP reported.
