A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Friday while walking on an onramp to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in the Hawthorne area, authorities said.

The 31-year-old Pomona man died at the scene about 6 a.m. on the freeway’s westbound Imperial Highway onramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

His name was withheld, pending family notification.

According to the CHP, the man was walking on the onramp when, “for unknown reasons,” he crossed in front of a 2015 Infiniti G37 that was going about 30 mph. Another vehicle then struck the back of the Infiniti, the CHP reported.

Both motorists stopped at the scene, and neither was hurt.

The onramp was closed until about 11 a.m. while an investigation was conducted.
