A 17-year-old girl killed when she was struck by a car while walking down a Lancaster street was publicly identified Thursday.
She was Cecilia Trujillo of Lancaster, according to Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.
Trujillo was hit about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on the north side of Avenue I, just west of 15th Street east, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. She was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday morning, said Detective Matthew Davis.
The man driving the Ford Focus and his female passenger were taken to hospitals with unspecified injuries. Their names were withheld.
“For some reason, the driver crossed over lanes and struck the girl,” sheriff’s Lt. Dan Nagelmann said early Wednesday. “The investigation is continuing into what happened.”
