A reputed Pomona gang member was in custody Saturday after police said they found him in possession of heroin packaged for sale.
Officers with the Pomona Police Department’s gang suppression detail conducted a pedestrian stop at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Dorset Avenue and made contact with 46-year-old Joseph Hernandez of Pomona.
Hernandez, who is “a known and documented Pomona gang member with a severe criminal record,” was found in possession of a large amount of suspected heroin, packaged for sales, said Pomona police Cpl. J. Martinez.
Officers learned Hernandez was on active probation and they conducted a probation compliance check of his residence where they located a loaded stolen firearm, several live ammunition rounds, and packaging material consistent with packaging narcotics for sales, Martinez said.
Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of:
-Possessing narcotics while armed with a firearm.
-Being a felon in possession of a firearm.
-Being a felon in possession of ammunition.
-Posessing a stolen firearm.
-Possessing a controlled substance for sales.
Hernandez was booked at the Pomona City Jail, Martinez said.
