Authorities Tuesday identified a young woman who was fatally injured when the SUV in which she was riding crashed on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar.
The crash occurred about 6:25 p.m. Sunday on the westbound 60 Freeway near the Brea Canyon Road onramp, said California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Rubio.
Alexis Flores, 18, of Ontario died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office and the CHP.
According to the CHP, Flores was riding in a 1998 Toyota 4Runner that was being driven in the No. 3 lane by 18-year-old Jessica Barksdale of Chino.
That’s when another vehicle made a lane change in front of the Toyota, and Barksdale “was forced to take evasive action, in an effort to avoid (a) collision, and lost control of her vehicle,” a CHP statement said.
The Toyota overturned, and the other vehicle kept going, the CHP reported. Barksdale suffered minor injuries. A second passenger in the Toyota suffered major injuries, the CHP reported.
The crash temporarily shut down the Brea Canyon Road onramp and the transition road from the northbound Orange (57) Freeway to the westbound 60 Freeway.
Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call the CHP Baldwin Park Area office at (626) 338-1164.
