A former high school teacher already serving time for having sex with minors in Fontana was sentenced Friday to seven additional years in state prison for engaging in sex acts with high school girls from Corona.
Anthony Joshua Perez, 31, of Corona pleaded guilty Oct. 31 to two counts of statutory rape and one count each of lewd acts on a minor, oral copulation of a child under 18 years old and possession of child pornography.
No charges were dismissed under the plea agreement which was certified by Riverside County Superior Court Judge Samuel Diaz, who imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.
According to prosecutors, Perez victimized four girls in Corona, identified in court documents only by their initials — A.G., C.P., L.G. and T.M.
In 2016, he was sentenced to five years in prison in San Bernardino County for victimizing several high school girls in Fontana. The defendant was transferred from North Kern State Prison last August to face the charges in Riverside County, which stemmed from illicit encounters that generally occurred between December 2010 and May 2013.
Corona police Sgt. Paul Mercado said Perez met two girls while working as a teacher at Lee V. Pollard High School. According to Mercado, the defendant maintained a “dating relationship” with one of the victims, seeing her regularly over a four-month span.
No accusations were made until one of the Fontana girls disclosed her inappropriate relationship with Perez in the fall of 2015, culminating in an extensive investigation that revealed all of the other victims, according to police.
When detectives served a search warrant at the defendant’s home, they seized the child porn.
It was unclear how long Perez was employed by the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
He had no prior convictions.
