A 16-year-old boy was assaulted and robbed of his bicycle in Covina, and some of his friends beat up a man they believed was the suspect, resulting in one arrest, police said.
Officers initially received a call about multiple people fighting Thursday evening in the 1000 block of North Azusa Avenue, said Covina police Lt. Trevor Gaumer.
Responding offers found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a contusion to his head who said someone struck him with a tool and then stole his bicycle, Gaumer said.
A group of friends of the boy, believed to be a mix of teenagers and young adults, decided to track down the suspect and confronted a man they believed was responsible for the attack, Gaumer said.
The boys jumped the man, who suffered a laceration to his head and was taken to a hospital to receive stitches, Gaumer said. The boy declined treatment at the scene and was released to his parents’ care.
Gaumer said both victims were uncooperative and did not want to press charges.
Police found one boy they believed was involved in the assault of the man and arrested him on suspicion of felony battery.
