A man who threatened to kill his mother and brother and barricaded himself inside a Sylmar home was forced out by tear gas Saturday after more than eight hours, authorities said.

The incident started at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the 13600 block of Lexicon Place, Lt. D. Grayson of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Station said.

The man threatened his relatives with a hatchet, Grayson said.

The man’s mother and brother were able to leave the residence, he said.

The man was arrested at midnight after tear gas was fired into the house, Grayson said. No injuries were reported.
