A search was continuing Tuesday for the person who shot two women in East Los Angeles, killing one and injuring the other.
The gunfire was reported at 11:09 p.m. Monday in the 4000 block of East Sixth Street, near Downey Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

One of the women was found on a sidewalk and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The surviving woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, said Deputy Wally Bracks.
“Information detectives received indicated the incident may be gang- related,” Bracks said.
A relative of the dead woman, however, said she was not involved with gangs.
“She was fun. She used to like to go out,” the unidentified relative told ABC7. “She was in a relationship. But, yeah, gang-wise? That was a mistake. I’m guessing she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The dead woman would have turned 22 on Wednesday, the station reported.
