A 37-year-old man allegedly violated a domestic violence restraining order in Lake Elsinore Tuesday and then tried to elude sheriff’s deputies by hunkering down inside a store that was surrounded and searched, culminating in his arrest.
Brian Chaffino of Moreno Valley was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of obstruction of a peace officer and other felony allegations after the standoff in the area of Central and Dexter avenues. Bail information was not immediately available.
About 12:40 p.m., deputies received word Chaffino was allegedly trying to forcibly enter a woman’s home in the 28000 block of Haygood Way, in violation of a restraining order she had obtained against him, said Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Thompson.
“While responding to the location, (deputies) witnessed the suspect inside a shopping center at Dexter and Central,” Thompson said.
He alleged that, when deputies approached Chaffino, the suspect bolted, running inside a store in the 29000 block of Central Avenue. Deputies surrounded the business and initiated a search using a K9 team, leading to Chaffino’s apprehension a short time later, according to Thompson.
No one was hurt during the search and arrest.
Thompson said the suspect had a felony warrant for his arrest, though the details weren’t specified.
