Whittier Police Thursday continued their search for a man suspected of attacking his wife with a chainsaw in front of their three children, seriously injuring her.
Police went to the 7700 block of Milton Avenue on a report of “an attempted murder stemming from a domestic violence incident,” said Whittier police Sgt. John Scoggins.
“When officers arrived they found a female adult suffering from traumatic physical injuries, believed to have been inflicted by a chainsaw,” Scoggins said. “The victim was transported to a local trauma center.”
Two of the children, who are between the ages of 5 and 10, were covered in blood, ABC7 reported.
The injured woman was taken to a hospital for surgery and was listed Thursday in stable condition, Scoggins said.
The suspect, identified as Alejandro Alvarez, 32, of Whittier, is Hispanic, 5 feet 3, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown Hurley T-shirt and dark jeans. He is believed to be driving a stolen blue 2004 four-door Mercury Mountaineer SUV, California license plate 8ABD233.
The chainsaw believed used in the crime was recovered, but police still consider Alvarez armed and dangerous, Scoggins said.
Anyone with information on the case, or who knows Alvarez’s whereabouts, was urged to call Whittier police detectives at (562) 567-9299.
