A man who allegedly threatened a woman, then spent three days on the run following a 12-hour standoff with police in Banning, was charged with making criminal threats Thursday.
James David Britton, 33, is accused of threatening an unidentified woman with a gun last Saturday morning at a home in the 2200 block of West Ramsey Street, Banning police said. However, the suspect fled the home before officers arrived and when he was located a few blocks away, he ran from officers into a home in the 3900 block of West Ramsey Street, police said.
There, a nearly 12-hour standoff ensued and ended when police entered the home and discovered Britton had apparently escaped, though a stolen handgun was found inside, they said.
Authorities disseminated Britton’s photograph to the public for assistance in locating him, and warned that he was believed to be armed and dangerous.
He was arrested Tuesday at a home on Wyte Way in Banning, where police say he had holed up with acquaintances after fleeing.
Britton, who’s slated to make his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon, was being held on $1 million bail.
