Two women and a man were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and battery in connection with the beer mug beating of a man in a restroom of a Covina bar, a beating that left the man with a fractured skull, police announced Thursday.

Police released video of two of the suspects Tuesday and began receiving phone and Crime Stoppers tips that led to the identification and location of the suspects, according to Sgt. Ray Marquez of the Covina Police Department.

Detectives, along with officers from the California Highway Patrol and the Pasadena Police Department Air Support Unit, arrested the two suspects shown in the video and a third person who was in the bar at the time of the crime, Marquez said.

The three arrested were identified as Vidal Larios, 40, of Glendale, Angel Franco, 23, and Elizabeth Franco, 40, both of Baldwin Park.

Where and when the three people were arrested was not immediately disclosed.

The victim and suspect had played pool just before midnight on Aug. 17 at Clancy’s Sports Bar at 961 N. Azusa Ave. and after the game the victim went into the men’s room, Marquez said.

“Moments later a male suspect is seen walking into the restroom holding a beer mug,” Marquez said. “Within moments of the suspect walking in, he is seen exiting the restroom and is captured on camera placing the beer mug on the floor outside of the restroom.”

The suspect, accompanied by a woman, then is seen on the security video exiting the bar, Marquez said.

“The victim was struck in the head and was left unconscious in the men’s restroom,” Marquez said. “The victim sustained a major head injury from the assault.”

All three suspects were taken to the Covina Jail where they were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
