A pregnant 16-year-old girl was hospitalized in stable condition Thursday after she was stabbed in the Westlake District and police searched for her attackers.

It happened about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im.

The girl was with two boys outside a 99 Cents store when they were reportedly approached by other young men and a fight broke out and the girl was stabbed, CBS2 said.

The girl was stabbed in her right side and was taken to a hospital, Im said.

“At this time we don’t know the motive,” LAPD Detective Ray Martinez said. “We’re still looking into that, whether it was gang-related or just a random attack.”

The girl was in stable condition, Martinez said, but the condition of the unborn child was not immediately available.

“We don’t know how many suspects, we believe there to be three to five male Hispanics,” Martinez said.

A description of the suspects was not immediately available.
