Two officers were seriously injured while arresting an assault and battery suspect Saturday at an apartment complex in Anaheim.
The officers were called at 8:40 a.m. to the apartment complex in the 2200 block of West Broadway regarding a man who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and allegedly assaulted an employee of the complex, Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.
“Preliminary information indicates when the officers tried to take the suspect into custody, a physical altercation occurred,” Wyatt said. Additional officers were called to the scene.
“The suspect was eventually taken into custody, and within minutes went into full cardiac arrest,” he said. Police officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, where his condition was not available.
The officers’ injuries were not considered life-threatening but they were taken to a trauma center for treatment, Wyatt said.
“Due to the seriousness of the incident, concurrent investigations are being conducted by the APD Homicide Detail, the APD Major Incident Review Team and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office,” he said.
