A man died after being taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies in the Florence area of Los Angeles and detectives Saturday investigated the circumstances that led up to his death.
Two deputies from the Century Sheriff’s Station were patrolling the area near 74th Street and Central Avenue at 2:40 p.m. Friday when they were alerted to an altercation involving two United States Postal Inspection Service agents and a man suspected of committing multiple crimes and fighting with residents in the area, according to Deputy Tony Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
One deputy helped the agents by placing the suspect in handcuffs and a short time later, the suspect was unresponsive and lifesaving procedures were administered, Moore said.
Paramedics arrived and continued lifesaving procedures, then transported the suspect to a hospital, where he died, Moore said.
The cause of death was unknown and the identity of the man was not released.
