Police searched Saturday morning for two men suspected of being involved in a shooting near a Vons supermarket in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles.

Police responded about 9 p.m. Friday to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 1400 block of Fairfax Avenue, near the intersection with Pico Boulevard, and determined there was no victim and the suspects had left the area, according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A suspect was trying to buy a cellphone he found on social media, but didn’t want to pay for it, then fired one shot into the ground and ran off, NBC4 reported.

Two suspects, one of whom had a black handgun, were being sought, Madison said.

A detailed description of the suspects was not available.
