A 35-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were jailed in Indio Thursday on suspicion of mail theft and forgery.
A three-month investigation by members of the Riverside County sheriff’s La Quinta Special Enforcement Team identified Arturo Sanchez of Indio and Jacqueline Lechuga of Bermuda Dunes as the suspects in a series of mail thefts in Coachella, Indio and La Quinta dating back to December, according to sheriff’s Sgt. David Smith.
Deputies and United States Postal Service Inspectors served a search warrant Wednesday at a home in the 83000 block of Garden Avenue in Indio looking for stolen property and forgery equipment and recovered several stolen items and equipment, Smith said.
As a result of the investigation and warrant, Sanchez and Lechuga were arrested and booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio. Sanchez was booked for check fraud, forgery, mail theft, burglary and violation of probation, Smith said. Lechuga was booked for conspiracy.
Anyone with information about the suspects and their activities was urged to call Deputy M. Rodriguez at (760) 863-8346 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (760) 836-3215.
