A 28-year-old man from Montclair was jailed Friday morning after being arrested in Pomona on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

About 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, members of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force were patrolling the area around Linden and Sixth streets when they spotted the suspect in the back seat of a vehicle with its door open, according to a statement from the Pomona Police Department.

Officers recognized the suspect, identified as Giovanni Rodriguez, from a prior arrest and knew he was a convicted felon on probation, the statement said.

An investigation discovered Rodriguez was in possession of a loaded gun. He was arrested and booked into the Pomona city jail, police said.

Rodriguez was scheduled to be in court in Pomona Friday morning.

The Major Crimes Task Force is a proactive street enforcement unit consisting of primarily Pomona police officers, but is also supported by the California Highway Patrol’s Baldwin Park office.
