A man barricaded himself inside an apartment in Anaheim for nearly three hours Monday evening before police used less than lethal rounds and a police dog to arrest the suspect and bring a safe end to the situation.
Police located a stolen car at Katella Avenue and State College Boulevard, across the street from Angel Stadium and City National Grove of Anaheim, about 6:45 p.m. but the suspect ran and jumped onto the ground floor patio of an apartment, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment and told police he had a gun and bomb, prompting the closure of Katella Avenue between State College Boulevard and Stadium Crossing, police said.
The Anaheim Police Department SWAT team and Orange County sheriff’s Bomb Squad were called to the scene and evacuations were ordered for residents in the area of Katella Avenue and State College Boulevard, police said.
Officers deployed less than lethal rounds about 9:40 p.m. and a police dog took the man into custody. No explosive devices were located, police said.
Police recovered two realistic-looking, but fake, guns and two knives from the suspect. He did not have a bomb, police said.
The name of the suspect was not immediately disclosed.
