A 30-year-old man was fatally injured Tuesday morning in the Westlake district when he was struck by a pickup truck that left the scene, police said.
The victim, identified as Leonides Rivas of Los Angeles, was struck about 6:20 a.m. as he crossed Bonnie Brae Street mid-block just north of Sixth Street, according to Sgt. Rares Isai of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division.
Rivas was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Isai said.
The pickup truck — described as a white 2000-2005 model, possibly a Chevrolet or Dodge, with a dark bed liner — was last seen heading south on Bonnie Brae Street, the sergeant said.
The vehicle probably has front-end damage as a result of the collision, according to police, who described the driver as a 30- to 35-year-old Hispanic man with dark, slicked-back hair.
Investigators obtained video of the vehicle and asked anyone with information that could help them identify the driver to call (877) LAPD-24-7.
