A Los Angeles School Police Department officer was injured Friday in an officer-involved shooting in the Westlake district.
The shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m. in the area of Third and Alvarado streets, according to school police Sgt. Julie Spry.
Los Angeles police said an officer-involved shooting occurred either before or right after the officer was struck by a vehicle.
Spry confirmed that the officer was not shot. According to NBC, he suffered a broken leg in an altercation with a hit-and-run suspect.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said officers responded about 2:50 p.m. to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision and ended up taking four people to a hospital, including the school police officer and a woman who was in serious condition. The other two patients were in fair condition, Prange said.
Channel 4 reported that a woman was involved in a hit-and-run collision at Third and Bonnie Brae streets, then carjacked a pickup truck and was involved in a vehicle-pedestrian collision at Third Street and Union Avenue, where the encounter with the officer occurred. The suspect allegedly tried to run over the officer, who was alert and conscious when taken to a hospital, according to NBC4.
There were no outstanding suspects, according to Spry.
