A man was found dead Thursday at the scene of a house fire in the Lake View Terrace area and his brother was treated for injuries he apparently suffered while trying to extinguish the flames with a garden hose, authorities said.
Firefighters sent to the 11300 block of North Hunnewell Avenue at 10:17 a.m. extinguished the flames in the single-story home in 19 minutes and found the man’s body inside the residence, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
He was identified by family members at the scene as 59-year-old Clifford Miles, KTLA reported.
The surviving brother was “found in the rear yard with smoke inhalation and minor burns, after reportedly attempting to battle the intense flames with a garden hose,” LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said. “The injured man was taken to an area hospital in undetermined condition for what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.”
Their pet dog was not injured, Humphrey said.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the blaze. Los Angeles police were sent to the scene to help investigate the fatality.
