Santa Ana police Thursday arrested a motorist who allegedly fled from police in a stolen vehicle that crashed into a house in Garden Grove.
The incident began about 2 a.m. when officers tried to pull over the vehicle but the driver kept going, Santa Ana police spokesman Anthony Bertagna said.
Police were looking for the vehicle after a wheelchair-bound Santa Ana man gave them a description of it when two suspects jumped his fence and stole marijuana plants from him, Bertagna said.
The driver was identified as Elijah Oscar Acosta, 19, of Whittier, Bertagna said.
The officers lost the vehicle, which had been going at a high rate of speed, for a time, and then learned that it had crashed into a residence in the 10400 block of Hazard Avenue, Bertagna said. Officers searched the area and took the driver and a juvenile passenger into custody.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said. His name was not immediately released. A passenger in the vehicle was treated for an unspecified injury. Two replica handguns were found in the vehicle, along with some marijuana plants, Bertagna said.
