A 30-year-old man killed in a three-vehicle DUI-related crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona was publicly identified Monday.
Justin Silva was a Hacienda Heights resident, the coroner’s office said.
Miguel Rubalcava of Victorville was driving his 2007 Mazda CX-9 east on the 10 Freeway, east of Dudley Street, crossing all lanes at an unknown speed, about 4:23 a.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol Officer J. Pena said.
A 2002 Honda Civic driven by Silva was disabled and blocking lane 1, Pena said. Silva was inside.
Rubalcava’s Mazda hit the driver’s side of the Honda, causing the Mazda to spin out of control and hit a 2002 Cadillac Escalade driven by 30-year-old Ricardo Gonzalez of Pomona in the carpool lane, the officer said. Silva was pronounced dead at the scene, Pena said.
Rubalcava suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he was eventually arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Pena said. Gonzalez who was driving the Escalade did not suffer any injuries.
The crash shut down the number lanes 1 through 4 on the eastbound 10 Freeway near Dudley Street.
A SigAlert was issued at 4:46 a.m. and cancelled at about 7:25 a.m., Pena said.
