Police Monday released video of a violent head-on collision in Boyle Heights between a bicycle and a pickup truck whose driver appeared to veer into oncoming lanes before hitting the victim and then leaving the scene.
The collision occurred about 10:30 p.m. Thursday on Whittier Boulevard near Calzona Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The bicyclist was riding east when a white full-sized Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck headed in the opposite direction crossed the center divider and struck the victim, police said.
“After the collision, the driver failed to stop to render aid, identify himself or herself and fled the scene in the vehicle,” according to an LAPD statement.
Paramedics took the bicyclist to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries, police said.
The pickup truck had a red front bumper with a lower air deflector, black wheel rims and a black bed cover. It may have had a custom white rear bumper and possible aftermarket head- and tail lamps.
Anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the driver was urged to call the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division at 213-833-3713 or call Detective Juan Campos at 213-486-0755 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
