The hit-and-run driver of a sedan that struck and seriously injured a pedestrian running across a Hemet street was being by sought police Wednesday.

Hemet police Sgt. Dan Reinbolt said that after two weeks, detectives have been unable to locate the motorist, and the investigation has stalled.

According to Reinbolt, the crash happened in the predawn hours of Oct. 8 on Florida Avenue, near Yale Street.

The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was running across Florida when she was hit by a white four-door sedan, likely a Chevrolet Malibu manufactured between 2004 and 2007, Reinbolt said.

He said the westbound motorist paused but did not stop to assist the woman or wait for authorities.

The victim was taken to a trauma center with major injuries, according to police. She remains hospitalized, but her prognosis could not be confirmed.

“Investigators urge the driver to come forward, contact the police department and tell us your side of the story, so we may better understand the events leading up to this collision,” Reinbolt said.

It was unknown whether the vehicle sustained front-end damage, but the sergeant said it was possible.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department’s Traffic Division at 951-765-2400.
