A transient pleaded no contest Friday to opening fire outside a Venice bar and wounding a man in an attack caught on cell phone video.
Robert Leo Mewhorter, 48, pleaded no contest to an attempted murder charge and admitted allegations that he used a gun and caused great bodily injury during the March 7, 2018, attack, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Mewhorter left the bar after getting into an argument with a man, returned soon after and opened fire, injuring the other man, according to prosecutors.
He was arrested the next day by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division and has remained behind bars.
Mewhorter faces 22 years in state prison, with sentencing set next Wednesday in a Los Angeles courtroom.
