A man was shot and wounded, then taken into custody after an officer-involved shooting Sunday in Montebello, authorities said.
The OIS occurred in the 100 block of South 10th Street about 1 p.m., according to media reports from the scene.
Montebello police identified a man they believed was involved in a homicide Saturday, CBS2 reported. Officers tried to stop him before he got into his car.
“That vehicle was used in a homicide and the detectives attempted to detain the suspect at that time,” sheriff’s Lt. Charles Calderaro told CBS2. “At that point, the suspect ignored their commands, entered the vehicle and attempted to flee and accelerated toward the officers, and officer-involved shooting occurred.”
Calderaro said the suspect was hit once in the lower chest and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
As of 7 p.m., South 10th Street was temporarily closed between Whittier Boulevard and Los Angeles Avenue, Montebello police reported.
The suspect’s age was not yet released.
No one from the Montebello police force was immediately available for comment.
