Newport Beach police asked Wednesday for the public’s help in tracking down a hit-and-run driver who injured a pedestrian last month.

The collision happened just before 8 p.m. Dec. 28 at Superior Avenue and Hospital Road. The 33-year-old victim is recovering from “major injuries,” said Newport Beach police Sgt. Peter Carpentieri.

The man was struck by a northbound SUV on Superior Avenue while walking east across the intersection in the crosswalk on Hospital Road, the sergeant said.

The vehicle was described as a small SUV that is red or maroon, possibly an early 2000s model Land Rover Freelander, that sustained damage to the right side.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Troy Zeeman at 949-644-3747, tzeeman@nbpd.org.
