A convicted burglar pleaded guilty Wednesday and was immediately sentenced to nearly a year in jail for breaking into an apartment in Orange and committing a lewd act.

Jeff Joseph Clody, 39, pleaded guilty to aggravated trespass and lewd conduct in a public place, both misdemeanors. As part of the plea deal, single felony counts of burglary and indecent exposure with a prior conviction and a misdemeanor count of aggravated trespass were dismissed.

Clody, who has been in custody since last Aug. 14, was sentenced to 354 days in jail, according to court records.

Clody broke into an apartment in the 3700 block of East Chapman Avenue last Aug. 13 at 8:48 p.m. The victim heard some noise in the kitchen and when she went to investigate, she saw Clody touching himself, said Sgt. Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department.

When the woman yelled for help from her boyfriend, the suspect ran off, but he was arrested at 2:30 a.m. the next day when someone reported suspicious activity near the prior night break-in, McMullin said.

Clody pleaded guilty in February 2016 to two felony counts of car theft and one count of buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, along with a misdemeanor count of tampering with a vehicle, and was sentenced to 32 months in prison.

He pleaded guilty to burglary June 2008 and was sentenced to two years in prison.
