A 43-year-old man was gravely wounded Sunday in a shooting attack in South Los Angeles, a sheriff’s deputy said.

The shooting occurred about 12:40 p.m. in the 1200 block of 97th Street, near the intersection of Budlong Avenue, said Deputy Michelle Sanchez.

The victim was transported to a hospital, said sheriff’s Sgt. Leo Vasquez. He has since been listed as “death imminent,” Sanchez said.

It’s unclear if the shooting was gang related. A motive was unknown.

No suspect information was available, and homicide detectives have no description of the shooter at this point.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call the sheriff’s South L.A. station at 323-820-6700. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
