A motorist was injured Monday when his car overturned on state Route 74 between Pinyon Pines and La Quinta.

The crash occurred about 3:40 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway, roughly a mile south of Vista Point, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The sedan went out of control, rolled through a chain link fence and landed 40 feet off of the roadway, a CHP officer said.

The driver suffered minor to moderate injuries, according to the CHP. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment.

Traffic was snarled on the two-lane highway because of the crash, which CHP officers were investigating.
