Officers arrested a stolen vehicle suspect Wednesday after he ditched a vehicle and ran onto the sand in Huntington Beach, where an officer-involved shooting occurred in which no one was hit, police said.
It started at about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, when an officer from the Huntington Beach Police Department tried to stop a vehicle without license plates in the area of Adams and Bushard.
The vehicle, which was later determined to be stolen, failed to stop and a pursuit occurred.
The driver, later identified as 19-year old Qyon McCode, lost control of the vehicle and collided with one of the pursuing units near the intersection of Main and Pacific Coast Highway. The driver then fled on foot toward the beach, and a passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody at the scene, police said.
Officers continued to pursue the suspect, who ran onto the sand and toward the ocean. During the foot chase, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was not hit, and he did not sustain any injuries. McCode was arrested and transported to Huntington Beach Jail.
A knife was later recovered from the scene, and no officers were injured, police said.
The investigation in ongoing.
