A man allegedly committed assault with a deadly weapon on a sheriff’s deputy in Palmdale Wednesday, prompting a high-speed pursuit that ended near Santa Clarita.

The suspect allegedly ran over the deputy with his vehicle about 5:20 p.m. near 10th Street and Avenue R, dragging him a few feet, according to Deputy Erin Liu of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“We don’t know the seriousness of the injury of the deputy but according to the Palmdale Station he’s all right,” Liu said.

The suspect fled and deputies pursued him on Soledad Canyon Road. Authorities unsuccessfully deployed a spike strip and attempted a PIT maneuver near the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway.

The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit on the freeway, where the suspect weaved through traffic and drove on the shoulder at speeds over 100 mph.

The pursuit ended at 5:56 p.m., when the suspect got off the freeway in the Santa Clarita area, and authorities took him into custody, according to CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig. The exact location the pursuit ended was not immediately available.
