A 37-year-old suspected drunken driver was in custody in Pomona Friday morning on suspicion of ramming at least two police vehicles and leading officers on a high-speed pursuit through the city.
Officers spotted a vehicle traveling at excessive speeds in the area of Holt Avenue and Currier Street about 12:40 a.m. and pulled the driver over, according to Sgt. M. Medellin of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force.

As officers approached the suspect’s vehicle, the driver used his vehicle to ram the police vehicle. The suspect sped off and hit a parked car then led officers on a pursuit “where he drove recklessly throughout the city,” Medellin said.
“The suspect stopped his car only after driving through a car wash and into a dead end,” Medellin said. “He made several last attempts to get away by ramming another patrol car.”
The suspect, identified as Raul Salas of Norco, refused to get out of the vehicle and engaged officers in a standoff before being taken into custody.
No injuries were reported.
