A 27-year-old woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend on a Banning street is due in court Thursday.

Salina Monica Ruiz of Banning was arrested Sunday after the alleged attack on Rigoberto Delgado.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint charging Ruiz with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon resulting in great bodily injury and inflicting corporal injury on a domestic partner.

The defendant, who is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at the Smith Correctional Facility, is slated to be arraigned at the Banning Justice Center on Thursday morning.

According to Banning police, patrol officers were called to the 900 block of West Hays Street, just north of Interstate 10, about 11:40 a.m. Sunday to investigate reports of an assault and found Delgado suffering from a puncture wound to the chest.

The victim accused Ruiz of stabbing him, Banning police Chief Matt Hamner said. A specific motive was not disclosed.

Officers immediately fanned out and spotted the defendant in the 800 block of West Williams Street, about a block from where the alleged assault occurred, Hamner said. She was taken into custody without incident.

The victim remains in the intensive care unit at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
