A 27-year-old burglary suspect on probation was arrested in Glendale after a chase through the Los Angeles River, police said Friday.
Joseph Magana, of Glendale, allegedly burglarized a business in the 5700 block of San Fernando Road, near the Ventura (134) Freeway, Thursday, according to Sgt. C. Hauptmann of the Glendale Police Department.
Officers arrived at the business and saw a “clear image” of Malaga on surveillance footage, then saw him near the business riding his bicycle through an alley, Hauptmann said.
Officers attempted to detain him, but he fled on his bicycle. A helicopter tracked him, and officers and canine units chased him through the Los Angeles River, according to Hauptmann. He resisted arrest and kicked at officers when they caught up to him in the water.
A police dog was deployed, allowing officers to take Magana into custody.
Magana, who was on probation for burglary and a suspect in a separate Los Angeles Police Department commercial burglary case, was booked for burglary and resisting officers by way of force.
