A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle that was being chased by Long Beach police, and the motorist and six other suspects were taken into custody in connection with the investigation, authorities said Wednesday.
The pedestrian’s dog was also killed, according to broadcast reports.
The incident began about 11 p.m. Tuesday when officers went to the 2100 block of Gaylord Avenue in response to a report of a burglary at a marijuana-related business, said Long Beach police Lt. Robert Woods.
Three suspects were arrested by arriving officers, and one suspect fled in a vehicle that was pursued by police, Woods said.
A short time later, a man was hit by the suspect’s vehicle as he was crossing a street at Magnolia Avenue and Sixth Street, and he died at the scene, Woods said. Information on his identity was not immediately available.
The driver was taken into custody at that location, Woods said. Meanwhile, officers searched the business and arrested three additional suspects, Woods said.
